The Hadhrami Diaspora is reaching out to the ancestral homeland in an appeal towards combating the Covid-19 pandemic.

I have been involved for almost a decade helping in the medical healthcare and have co-operated over the years with friends from Singapore who have provided fantastic support in various fields.

The Arab Network @Singapore (AN@S) joined me this time and publicised their appeal in South East Asia with a good response. The following is their publicity:

“We thank all donors, volunteers and supporters for the Hadhramawt Covid19 medical supplies humanitarian aid project. All 42 boxes of supplies have been packed and made ready for shipment from Singapore to Tareem, Seiyun and Mukalla in Hadramawt, Yemen. These consist of 6 different medicines known to treat Covid19 symptoms and patients, as well as personal protective equipment (PPEs) such as masks, gloves, face shields, isolation gowns and surgical caps. AN@S managed this project end-to-end, by ensuring that needs assessment on the ground are validated.

Our project team in Singapore:

a) includes medical doctors who directed procurement of choice of medicines and PPEs and sought donation in kind from the medical community

b) instituted an organized and transparent procurement process so that we purchase in the most cost-efficient manner and gain maximum benefits for both beneficiaries and donors. Our outreach included checking what other channels of support are sending to Hadhramawt, so as to complement and not duplicate related efforts. The shipment was scheduled for July, but was inevitably delayed due to airport closures and the cancellation of flights on normal routes, as a result of Covid19 restrictions.

The supplies will now be shipped on August 10th InshaAllah to Muscat after which our logistics partner, the Oman Charitable Organization, an official charity in Oman will escort and transport all supplies direct to the assigned locations.”

I have meanwhile been advising and dealing with officialdom in Hadhramaut to see that the consignment is appropriately delivered to the various Covid-19 centres setup in Hadhramaut.
